Price: £40.00 This detailed and well-made zebra ornament is just one example of our superb Raku pottery animals which are African ornaments fired in a particular way. This decorative animal zebra ornament is displaying her maternal instincts and is a truly endearing piece of Raku pottery. The protective mother looks content as her calf snuggles against her leg. The grey stripes on the bodies of the zebra ornament are rough to touch, whereas the creamy glaze is smooth. If you're looking for other ceramic animals check out our entire Raku pottery collection Raku was originally a Japenese method of firing tea ware, but today it has lead to the production of this unique, African-inspired pottery. Each piece of ornamental Raku pottery undergoes the skill of at least eight different crafters who then initial the base of their pottery. It is removed from the kiln at 950 degrees celcius and as the pottery begins to cool, the glaze cracks. It is then put into a drum of sawdust where the blackened sawdust settles within the cracks. During the firing process, imperfections appear to the glaze, which makes each piece of ornamental Raku pottery unique.
